Securing Banners During Different Seasons

10/28/2024

Here in Michigan, we hope that it’s safe to say we get the absolute most out of every season. Our summers are lovely—but hot and windy. Our winters are beautiful—when there’s no blizzard outside.

With a range of seasons as severe as Michigan’s, it’s important that everything that your business or organization relies on to succeed is reliable. Here at BannerFlex, we understand that the rigors of Michigan’s many seasons call for advanced durability and reliability. That’s why we’ve created top of the line banner brackets that will stand the test of time through every season.

In this month’s blog post, we’re discussing how the different seasons affect your banners over time.

Spring

Spring isn’t such a bad time for banners and banner brackets, all things considered. Let’s take a look at the more extreme conditions spring is likely to suffer from, such as:

  • Cold Snaps
  • Snow Storms
  • Temperature Changes
  • High Winds

While each of these conditions can be tough on banners and banner brackets, each of these are usually much worse in the winter. The only condition to really watch out for is high winds.

Due to the increasing shifts from cold to hot during the springtime, high winds are frequently whipped up in the Spring. This can be a problem for improperly secured banners, which will catch the wind like a sail. If you don’t use BannerFlex banner brackets during the spring, then we recommend that you frequently check the windspeeds during the springtime.

Summer

It’s a sad fact that summers are consistently rising in temperature. That means each year, your banner and banner hardware will face hotter and hotter temperatures. At the same time, heavy thunderstorms and extended heat waves will put improperly secured banner brackets at risk of expanding with the heat (loosening them) and being ripped off by the winds.

Fall

Like spring, fall is something of a battleground season where hot air mixes with cold. As a result, you’ll again need to keep an eye out for high winds and even tornadoes. As a quick reference, here are the six categories of tornadoes to look out for:

F0 Tornado: So-called “gale tornadoes,” reaching 40-72 miles per hour.
F1 Tornado: Moderate tornado; 72-112 miles per hour.
F2 Tornado: Significant tornado; 112-157 miles per hour.
F3 Tornado: Severe tornado; 158-206 miles per hour.
F4 Tornado: Devastating tornado; 207-260 miles per hour.
F5 Tornado: Incredible tornado; 261-318 miles per hour.

Winter

Winter isn’t a great season for many banners. In winter, the combination of factors such as heavy snow, thick ice, and extreme low temperatures can spell destruction for poorly made banner brackets.
